AN INTERVIEW WITH SUSAN BOYLE

Thank you for granting me this interview. I start immediately with the first question:
1 ) You have the voice of an angel and it gives emotions. Do you think this talent is a gift of God?
I believe that this entire journey over the last four and a half years has been a gift. My life turned around over night and I honestly believe my mother helped this to happen. Never in my wildest dreams did I think for a second that I would be able to have such a wonderful career. I thank God everyday for the blessings. I've been incredibly lucky and I honestly believe it is down to a higher power.
2 ) In The Merchant of Venice (V , i, 83-85 ), Shakespeare said:
"The Man That hath no music in Himself ,
Nor is not mov'd with concord of sweet sounds ,
Is fit for treasons , stratagems , and spoils."
Was he right, according to you?
It is a very strongly worded quote from Shakespeare that essentially says a man who doesn't enjoy music is set for bad things. I don't really agree with this strong statement, however I do believe that all of us are touched or moved by music, some to a lesser degree than others but I don't believe that those who don't resonate with music are set for a life of bad.
3 ) How is it possible to reach people hearts with just your voice? Is the voice closely linked to the soul?
For me I harness the emotion I have felt over my life and put it into my voice. We have all had immense sadness or happiness and I capture the emotion that I felt and sign my heart out. I use memories and life experiences that all of us at some point have gone through to make it real and resonate to the listeners.
4) Who or what is an artist, according to you ?
I don't feel qualified to answer that. The beauty of our industry is the diversity of artists. You cannot pigeon hole an artist or make assumptions that because they are different they don't qualify as an artist. Diversity is the greatest part of this industry and whilst I'm sure many don't believe I qualify as an artist, I'm fortunate to have been given an amazing opportunity and embraced by so many people who do see me as one.
5 ) Will you be back in Italy, for a concert ?
The last time I was in Italy was for San Remo in 2010, so I'm due a visit. I would love to visit Italy again and perform over there again. Here's hoping I can at some point.
6) The song that gave you the popularity was titled " I Dreamed a Dream " : did you realize your every dream?
I can safely say I have realised every dream and more. My career year on year just gets better and better. There are moments that not even I would have deemed possible. I never could have imagined I'd be so fortunate to have done so much. I have a wonderful team around me who have afforded me so many remarkable opportunities. I'm very lucky.
7) You are the model that gives hope to many people , especially many women who often are treated by society as no longer useful. Is there any advice you'd give to those who lost hope?
Don't ever give up on hope. TO give up on hope would be a disaster. Life is tough and it has it's up's and down's but hope and action get you through. Don't let people make you look negatively at yourselves. If you have a dream or a goal go out there and make it happen. Only you can make the changes necessary in life, it doesn't just fall into your lap. Go out with your head held high and make it happen. That would be my advice. Only you can change your life. If I had never stepped onto the BGT stage my life today would never have happened. Be brave!
8) What gives you more happiness when you sing?
Making people happy is what make me happy. It's simple. I just want people to be happy and enjoy the music.
9) Is there anything you would like to add to this interview?
Not really, they are good questions though. It's the first time I've had a Shakespeare question!
10) What are your future plans?
My future plans: touring England and Wales in March and April of this year, hopefully continuing the tour worldwide, maybe some more TV/movie work. Definitely a sixth album and to keep going as long as possible. I love what I do and I don't want it to end.
Thank you very much, Susan, and best wishes for everything!
Very special thanks to NICOLA PHILLIPS!
